You
pass through the highway where a 1920’s Baldwin steam locomotive welcomes you,
at the west side of the drumbeating capital of Negros Occidental – La Carlota
City.

Famous
for the Pasalamat Festival where even the young knows how play the drums and
dance to the distinct pasalamat beat, it is an hour’s drive from Bacolod City via
Kansilayan, Murcia to Ma-ao Bago. A bus
ride to the city will only cost you P25 – P35 pesos. There are places where one
can visit in the city such as the Central Azucarera de la Carlota, the biggest
plant of Bong Bongs Pasalubong, Haguimit Hilltop Resort, the historic Our Lady
of Peace Church just right next to the City Hall. Guintubdan Pavillion at Brgy.
Ara-al is best for weekend getaways, they have rooms available, native food can
be served or you can bring food, this is where the view of the waterfalls is
refreshing as you take a cup of native coffee , or trek down and take a plunge in the cool spring water right
at the foot of Mount Kanlaon Natural Park.

Getting ready for the influx of
tourist in the city, the City Tourism Office recently conducted a training for all accommodation establishments
and frontline workers to a Tourism Frontline Services Training which included
topics such as Tourism Awareness, Tourism Trends, Personality Development,
Customer Service, Front Office and Housekeeping with JDC and Ms. Belinda
Berbenzana as resource speakers with the support of Mayor Juliet Marie Ferrer,
Administrator Rommel Tam and SP Chair on Tourism Karen Aguirre. Eddie Yap a
government retiree attended the event as well.

The city used to be known as
Mangkas, which was once headed by Marciano Soriano Araneta of Molo, Iloilo, who
led the revolutionaries in the late
1800’s and one of the founders of the Cantonal Government in Negros in 1899. A
National Historical Institute marker can be found at the city hall informing
the public on the importance of history in La Carlota.
