When buses are scarce and it seems forever to wait for one, just to take you on journey either to the south or the north, killing more of your time when you are suppose to be wearing your swimsuit and that cool shades while sunbathing under the sun, let me take you to a nearby place within the highly urbanized city of Bacolod and experience the comfort of peace, quiet and serenity and appreciate nature at its best.

A jeepney ride away from the heart of the city is an inland resort, where trees abound and on a hot summer's day, providing us shade and shelter to forest animals like monkeys and birds. There are acacia, mahogany, palms, "talisay" and eucalyptus trees all over.

 It was two decades ago when I first visited this place on a picnic with my parents' prayer group, where we considered this place to be the venue for our wedding. This was converted into a resort in February of 2011, located at Brgy. Taculing, the Forest Park Resort takes pride in its aviary for the kids and young at heart to see, a chattering lory, love birds, emerald dove, a grass owl, blue gold macaw which can be trained to talk . While taking pictures, the sound of the peacock caught my attention as if telling me to take a picture of him too. 


The male peacock wearing a blue crown with a fully developed feather is considered to be the most beautiful and spectacular pheasants in the world. Walking around the park, you will be able to meet the spotted deer, monkey and an addition to the family are three goats.

Ms. Danilou Dingcong and Mr. Martin Gonzales of the sales and marketing office showed us the facilities of the resort. The water garden boast of a 2,000 square meter swimming pool considered to be the widest pool in western visayas at 2ft. to 4ft. deep, plus about 250 meters of lazy river and a play fountain. They have six lifeguards to watch over the kids and adults taking the plunge on this hot summer day. Around the pool are picnic huts with a capacity of 10 - 20 persons. The resort is also a favorite for pre-nuptial pictorials as we chanced upon a couple at the wishing well.

 For small meetings, air-conditioned gazebos are available for a group of 50-100, the grand gazebo can accommodate 800 persons for conferences, parties and weddings.

There are seven fully furnished air-conditioned villas with hot and cold shower, cable tv and a loft good for six persons, plus dormitory type rooms also good for 4-8 persons. A food court awaits those who wants to give in to gastronomic desires.

The town was known as Manlambus, a Visayan term meaning to strike with a club because its coastal waters were then abundant with fish, catching them could simply be done by using a club or lambus. Bulang Bulang Festival

           The week is a celebration of festivals from the City of Talisay, Don Salvador Benedicto, Candoni, Pulupandan and the town of San Enrique. Luckily, we have good weather wherein people can move around and enjoy the dances from the mountains to the sea. It was high noon when we travelled about 37 kilometers to the south on a well paved and asphalted road network.                It was the celebration of the 113 th Annual Town Fiesta with the theme, ‘Pagpasalamat kag pagsinadya para sa kauswagan sang Banwa’. Manang Pula to Manapla

It always rains in August where flowers are in bloom and fruits are abundant, this is the month where you get to taste the sweetest rambutan, lanzones, santol, native pineapples and the mangosteen. When travelling to the north of Negros Occidental, makeshift stalls made of bamboo and nipa stalks are lined up along the main highway where fruits are on display which makes you stop and shop.   On this Sunday morning, the sun shined brightly, we were wearing our sunglasses as we walked along the streets of Manapla for the 145 th annual town fiesta also known as the Manang Pula Festival.
