Mom came home last summer

Image
Mommy was a teacher in a Chinese school back then, she worked as secretary for then Senator Sergio Osmena before she became an educator, a hardworking and very practical woman who seldom wears make up. She is a fast typist and plays the piano very well. When i was at junior high school, mommy decided to go to the United States to help raise us who were growing up fast. My dad just came back from a two year contract in Saudi Arabia .  Yes both parents were Overseas Filipino Workers. It was only after twelve years that she came back, she missed our prom, she missed our weddings, she also missed taking care of us when we gave birth to her grandchildren .This time they were already separated with my dad.  Finally she came home and year after year she would find time visiting us.  Mom came home again last summer, she walks a little bit slower this time, she  is on medication for diabetes at 72. I was happy she came to finally attend my sons graduation last summer. Missing

Negros Day

5 th of November             Every 5 th of November better known as Negros Day in the Province of Negros Occidental is a celebration of freedom from the colonization of   Spaniards , a historical event depicted at the Cannon Festival of   Bago City where you see   rolled sawali mats painted in black on top of   carriages with men in revolutionary attire carrying coconut stalks with knives at one end to look like bayonets while marching towards Bacolod in 1898. Today, the loud sounds of the cannons along the main streets of Bago no longer tell us about fear from enemies but a sweet memory of freedom   many years back. This is how significant this celebration has become. One can visit Silay City   for the annual KAON TA event, a food festival showcasing the delicacies of the town and home grown recipes where you get to taste in Silay and during the two day festival. Was able to witness the gastronomic festival last year, this time though   I decided to

The Masskara festival indeed brought  about a lot of tourist and visitors to  Bacolod last October 2017 .  Many groups came and kept tour guides busy. As I was watching tv early Saturday, I received a call asking me to guide our visitors from Manila. There I was inside a rented van with eight millenials and our dear family friend Asher Abino, a Negrense who is now residing in Manila for a weekend visit. They arrived last flight of Friday and were able to book rooms at the L’Fisher ecotel as early as June this year, they were right smack in the middle of the party area.    They are engineers and young professionals who planned this trip for two years, they went to Mambukal Resort,    tasted the batchoy with spareribs at a local restaurant, the chicken inasal and enjoye d the street party and the electric Masskara, and the best part shopped for more goodies from our local stores ending up paying for excess baggage ,
