A Historical Cultural Exchange: Yesterday and Today
Today
marks the end of the Negros Revolution between the Spanish forces and the
Negrense Revolutionaries, 116 years back. It is
the commemoration of the signing
of the act of capitulation or surrender by the
Spanish colonizers in November 6, 1898 known to be the historic bluff
that freed Negros. Recently, the Bago City Government opened the “A Cinco de Noviembre Story’ an
oral and written account of what transpired years ago in Negros, displayed at
the house of then revolutionary leader General Juan Araneta of Bago also known
as Balay ni Tan Juan Community Museum.
DOT
Regional Director Helen Catalbas, Pilar
Martinez of NCCA together with the members of the Visayas Association of
Museums/Gallery members, Mayor Ramon Torres with officials of Bago City and
tourism industry stakeholders came in Filipiniana inspired attire.
Ms. Rosenni
Mina, City Tourism Officer of Bago
welcomed the guest together with Museum Director Clemente del Castillo, who has
been a passionate cultural worker in
Negros. The city has been active in the cultural mapping efforts of not only
Bago but the whole 4th district as well, probably the only district in the
province with the compilation of a cultural map in Negros Occidental.
The
5 de Noviembre story is very interesting and can now be told to the new
generation, making them appreciate history in its simplest form by way of the exhibition. This is a story of
colonization and the cultural exchange
between Filipinos and Spaniards. Today, we have come to a recognize the
fact Tourism plays a big role in the economy, and in the Philippines , Koreans
made it to the top among the most number of tourist who visited the country
specially in Western Visayas wih more than 240,000 who came in 2013. With
recent developments, the Department of Tourism, Office of Tourism Standards and
Regulations with Department of Tourism Region 6
in partnership with the ASEAN Korean Center is in Bacolod for a two-week
Korean Language Training course for Tourism Professionals. There are about 32
participants. The two-week training will be held on November 3-14, 2014,
participated by tourist policemen, tour guides, tourism officers, hotel and
resorts workers and industry players.

is a skill, wherein the training is for personal and professional gain to help
government and tourism in the Philippines and Korea . Language is a bridge
