NEGROS: One Island, One Dream

Panaad sa Negros comes as a week long fiesta celebration every year, known as the festival of all festivals in the province which showcases the best of Negros Occidental . Celebrating its 22 nd year, it is good to note that we are working hand in hand with the other side of the island, the Province of Negros Oriental. It was a few moons ago when I chanced upon a festival celebration in Negros Oriental with no less than Governor Alfredo Maranon as guest speaker, he passionately spoke about the dream of every Negrense to unite as one island region, which gave me the idea to suggest this year’s theme that best fits the occasion   Negros: One Island, One Dream. The celebration begins in the morning with a thanksgiving mass and the ringing of the century old bell that signifies the rich cultural heritage and influence of the sugar industry in the province. When buses are scarce and it seems forever to wait for one, just to take you on journey either to the south or the north, killing more of your time when you are suppose to be wearing your swimsuit and that cool shades while sunbathing under the sun, let me take you to a nearby place within the highly urbanized city of Bacolod and experience the comfort of peace, quiet and serenity and appreciate nature at its best. A jeepney ride away from the heart of the city is an inland resort, where trees abound and on a hot summer's day, providing us shade and shelter to forest animals like monkeys and birds. There are acacia, mahogany, palms, "talisay" and eucalyptus trees all over.  It was two decades ago when I first visited this place on a picnic with my parents' prayer group, where we considered this place to be the venue for our wedding. This was converted into a resort in February of 2011, located at Brgy. Taculing, the Forest Park Resort ta
