my city, my sm, my crafts
There are times that you feel like going
to places and check out what’s new and
have a ‘me’ time by yourself. This is
what I just did a few days ago after five in the afternoon. Not sure of what to
do, I took a taxi to the mall.
Hand bags would interest me and shoes too, however, since I already purchased
a hand made native bag from Calatrava a
few days ago, I decided to go for a gastronomic delight at a nearby Chinese
fast food outlet, always remember to
pair a bowl of steamed rice with dumplings and fried spring rolls with sweet
and sour sauce and the ginger sauce.
Just as I was about to finish, I read
some post of blogger friends that they were at the mall too, then I realized
this must be the time for the launching of a partnership between SM, DTI, NCCA,
Philippine Star, CITEM and the Association of Negros Producers. Having been invited by Ms. May Castro of SM,
I decided to walk towards the northside of the mall from the south, with the
expansion of the north wing, it is best if you take the escalator and walk
passing through the bridge, then pass the new food court area, and use the
escalator to go down for the events area at the ground floor.
The ANP Crafts House was decorated with
crafts and its finest souvenir items from paper bags, hand woven shawls and
table runners by Negros Nine Abaca Weavers, Vivo Handmade Crafts, Negros
Volunteers for change, OISCA , KICULO and many more. The exhibition is a celebration of traditional arts and modern
Philippine designs. Assistant Mall Manager Julia Javellana in her speech
encouraged the audience to promote and support Philippine Arts and Crafts.
The Bacolod Youth Association Rondalla
entertained the guests, the Negros Blogging Society Inc. together with
SkyScrapertCity-Bacolod bloggers came in full force to support the event, First Lady of the Province Dr. Marilyn Maranon
and Bacolod City’s First Lady Josefa ‘Patching’ Puentevella attended the event
with Ms. Mary Ann Colmenares, Ms. Joji Locsin, ANPs Executive Director Jesus
Nemenzo, Shigemi and Thelma Watanabe of
OISCA, SM Iloilo’s Troy Camarista came and
SM’s AVP for Marketing Millie Dizon flew in for the said event.
The exhibition will surely help our local weavers, handicraft makers and workers
in the industry as you take time to visit the craft house, prepare gifts and decors for the Christmas season, buy
Negrense crafts at SM now.
