#WeLoveSanCarlos

San Carlos full of LOVE at 56

There is always a reason to celebrate life when all things are happening the way it is planned. In Negros Occidental, every time I travel across the translink highway from Bacolod via Salvador Benedicto, it is so refreshing to see a panoramic view of the rice terraces tilled and shaped as it is today, a labor of love by farmers up in the mountains.

It only takes two hours or less depending on the speed and the expertise of the driver to reach the 4th most lovable city in the world-San Carlos. The World Wildlife Fund recently spearheaded this competition where voting was done through social media , among 46 cities in 20 countries worldwide, San Carlos City was top five as a city where one loves to go around, applies the power of nature with the 59-MW solar power plant inaugurated in April this year, where clean living is a way of life having been a Galing Pook and Clean and Green awardee, where one can experience good food be it habichuelas or fresh sea food. It is also in the city where they started the practice of green buildings with less air conditioners  at the imposing City Hall.

They have a San Carlos Development Board, a housing authority and one of the best good governance practice, where politicians are united and works together as one.
Hats Parade
The 56th Charter day celebration was highlighted with a two hour parade of government offices , non-government organizations, schools with about nine bands, and participating commercial establishments, Vice Governor Eugenio Lacson walked along the street with some officials while Mayor Gerardo Valmayor and some officials were driving the newly acquired all-terrain vehicle at the parade . Participants were in colorful and uniquely designed hats, leaving  judges having a hard time to choose the best, San Carlos Technical School won followed by the Biopower group for the private sector and Brgy. 3 won first place for government category. School bands  participated in the  drum and lyre competition,  Julio Ledesma National High School won  first place  showing  precision and  execution of movements, variety of  formations, choreography and musicality with cadence and discipline, while Tanon College placed 2nd.
City DRRMO
Vice Gov Bong and PG
It is also during this time where tourism officers and stakeholders from both provinces meet, surprisingly, there was Rafael Duhaylungsod of St. Pauls University together with Negros Oriental Senior Tourism Operations Officer Myla Abellana. We were billeted at Palau Hotel, one of the modern day hotels in the city with an elevator that speaks in British accent , reminding you to press the key in case you forget to press the number of the floor. They even have a coaster for visitors on tour and a gym where guests can and workout continue to firm up while in business or leisure. Indeed you see development happening, the local government cooperative in partnership with PAGIBIG inaugurated the first social cooperative housing project for employees with the first fifteen units built at a very affordable price of P450,000.00 each house and lot, a tree planting activity was held as well with the Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office headed by Joe Alingasa leading his staff together  with Councilor Wilmer Yap.
FHM’s 2016 sexiest woman Jessy Mendiola and artist Jennifer Lee were guest performers  in this years 56th Charter Day celebration.
