The past two years have been tough for everyone , lockdowns, rising cases of Covid has hampered the economy, the freedom to move around town and even drive by  the mountains or the seas for fresh air and be able to appreciate nature at its best.

Never in our wildest dreams have we thought of not being able to see our fam
ily from nearby towns, cities and even from neighboring islands this long. Indeed time has come that we have to move on after having been fully vaccinated, we finally had the chance to go outdoors, safe, and refreshing.  

                                      
                   

While most of us were busy staying safe, keeping a social distance, in the town of La Castellana, coffee shops came about along the highway  with a picturesque view of the mountain , an active volcano Mount Kanlaon. 

When you hear about festival dances like Bayles De Luces, Banana Festival or tasted the famous taro and banana chips, or better yet visited a number of spring resorts like Caduhada and BajiBaji with the latest glamping site like Domeino at Mandayao Legacy Park , home of the Mandayao waterfalls, the leaf garden and the latest huge cross for the faithful.

About an hour and a half drive to south east of the province, you can either pass thru the Murcia, Bago, La Carlota route or the coastal road leading to Pontevedra town and turn left towards Brgy. Antipolo that will lead you to La Castellana .

There are pension house in the town, they claim to have the best lechon in this part of the island, where the people are hospitable and friendly. 

The tourism office is just behind the Municipal Hall where you can ask for assistance

    This is where fresh vegetables are grown,      coffee is harvested and native products        are made by the women in the uplands.

A visit to La Castellana can be very refreshing, affordable prices of goods where you appreciate nature at its best.

The town was known as Manlambus, a Visayan term meaning to strike with a club because its coastal waters were then abundant with fish, catching them could simply be done by using a club or lambus. It is believed that Escalante was inhabited since 11 th A.D. per artifacts unearthed by Siliman University Anthropological Team in 1975-76. It was created a municipality on November 28, 18 56 on orders of Gobernador Manuel Crespo,  with Nueva Sevilla (now Old Poblacion) as the seat of government. In 1860, Fr. Bulang Bulang Festival

           The week is a celebration of festivals from the City of Talisay, Don Salvador Benedicto, Candoni, Pulupandan and the town of San Enrique. Luckily, we have good weather wherein people can move around and enjoy the dances from the mountains to the sea. It was high noon when we travelled about 37 kilometers to the south on a well paved and asphalted road network.                It was the celebration of the 113 th Annual Town Fiesta with the theme, ‘Pagpasalamat kag pagsinadya para sa kauswagan sang Banwa’. The festival was highlighted by a character dance presentation and competition of six tribes which showcased the movements of a fighting cock and its relation to the lifestyle of the people like game fowl raising, breeding and cockfighting. Manang Pula to Manapla

It always rains in August where flowers are in bloom and fruits are abundant, this is the month where you get to taste the sweetest rambutan, lanzones, santol, native pineapples and the mangosteen. When travelling to the north of Negros Occidental, makeshift stalls made of bamboo and nipa stalks are lined up along the main highway where fruits are on display which makes you stop and shop.   On this Sunday morning, the sun shined brightly, we were wearing our sunglasses as we walked along the streets of Manapla for the 145 th annual town fiesta also known as the Manang Pula Festival.
