World Tourism Celebration

The month of September is indeed filled with so many activities from the Maritime Week, Cancer Prevention Month, National Statistics Month, 113th Civil Service Anniversary, Provincial Tourism Week, Micro Small and Medium Enterprise Summit and of course World Tourism Day on the 27th of September with the theme: One Billion Tourists, One Billion Opportunities which relates all the events for the month to tourism development and promotion of our province Negros Occidental.
Recently, the Provincial Tourism Week was held in various malls with school based competitions and activities. Marie Arriane Diolingo of Philippine Normal University of Cadiz City and Micca Mae Natabio of Cadiz City SPED High School both won first place in the Tour Guiding Competition . PO1 JR P. Grande of Sagay City won First Place in the Tourist Police Tour Guiding Competition as well as  Rei Cesar Eson of Old Sagay Elementary School won First Place in the  Tour Guiding Elementary Level.
In the Provincial Tourism Quiz, Janine Crystal Cajolo of Genaro P. Alvarez Elementary School won First Place for Elementary, Prezel Ann Zamora of Tabao National High School was First Place Winner for High School, Charlane Borbon of La Consolacion College won First Place against Margarette Joy Rio of  Philippine Normal University of Cadiz City after a tie breaking question.
The Tourism District Fair at the mall was held for three days with an exhibition in promotion of tourist attractions and destinations with the Municipality of Pontevedra as the Best Travel Fair Booth awardee. Most prominent visitor on the last day was Negrense artist Jose Mari Chan who was promoting his latest album Coming Home Christmas with 22 songs after 22 years since the release of Christmas in Our Hearts. Perhaps this would be the best gift for our love ones away from home as we support our Negrense talents.
Various plaques were presented to partners in the tourism industry during the Tourism Excellence Awards at Robinsons Place Bacolod. As we celebrated the Provincial Tourism Week, tourism officers also led the Negros Team for the defence of our entries to the Best Tourism Practices Awards which will be the highlight of the Association of Tourism Officers Convention in Davao on the First Week of October. Technical Working Group for Negros Occidental were Ian de Ramos for Panaad sa Negros, Patricia Bilbao for the Tourism Week Entry and Jenny Cordero for the Best Tourism Oriented LGU entry with Ellen Jalandoni, Nancy Pestano and Dr. Marlin Sanogal. This is going to be another milestone for Negros Occidental under the administration of Governor Alfredo Maranon’s leadership.
