Negros Welcomes Duty Free
Every
time we travel or we welcome our Balikbayan relatives and close friends, it is
customary in the Philippines to jokingly ask or expect the ‘pasalubong’. But
with excess baggage fees so high, and travel lite is in we seldom see large
boxes at the arrival carousel at the airport anymore.
However,
times have change, we have a progressive province with the most number of
cities in the country and a most livable highly urbanize capital city like
Bacolod. Soon, we will be catering to international flights at the
Bacolod-Silay Airport. To augment the service facilities for tourists and
returning Filipino travelers where we generate foreign exchange and revenue for
government, we welcome Duty Free Philippines in Negros Occidental.
Duty
Free as commonly known is a government corporation which operates on duty and
tax-free merchandising in the country. This is of course the Department of
Tourism’s bid to promote and develop tourism in the region. Recently, we
attended the blessing and opening of its 17th branch at the arrival
area of the Bacolod-Silay Airport just right next to the tourist information
desk.
The
day started with a mass and blessings with Fr. Dimitri Gatia, a ribbon was cut
to official open the duty free outlet by Atty. Bong Dilag and Ms. Carmela
Villavicencio representing Bacolod and Provincial Government together with
Councilor Solomon Locsin of Silay with Duty Free Philippines Division Manager
Gilda San Juan and Store Manager Shelley Sanico.
Duty
Free offers the best brands in Liquor
classified into white spirits, single malt and premium whisky such as Absolut
Vodka, Kurant, Raspberry, Smirnoff, Grey Goose and Bacardi in apple, gold or mojito, Jose Cuervo,
Carlos and Alfonso, Jack Daniels, Chivas Regal, Fundador, Rose Tequila, Johnnie
Walker and our very own Lakan which is an extra premium lambanog and many more.
There are cigarettes as well from Marlboro, Dunhill to Kent and a very sweet
corner of chocolates from Cadbury, Hershey’s milk chocolate, Kisses, Cookies
and Cream, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Baby Ruth, KitKat, Toblerone, Crunch and
many more sold in packs with freebies like umbrellas, backpacks to wall clocks.
I had to try as customer, paid in pesos with a price in dollars, a pack of
chocolates would cost from $30 to $50.
Shopping
Privileges for arriving passengers, senior citizens and persons with disability
as inbound passenger can now purchase up to $1,000 worth of duty free items
within 48 hours upon arrival. A Balikbayan or any returning Filipino who has
been abroad for at least a year can purchase up to $2,500 worth of duty free
items. All these are brought closer to families and friends without worrying on
excess baggage fees and a stress free and very exciting home coming.
Awesome share Jennylind. Keep up with the good work. People will love this for sure. I just loved it personally as I love duty free shopping.
