Summer in Sagay

Image
Warm hospitality and kindness of the people, beautiful sceneries and nice beaches, able to see love ones and relatives, good climate, good food, liquor and fruits are some of the reasons why people come to the Philippines. This just shows why the Province of   Negros Occidental including Bacolod City   recently   registered an increase of tourist arrivals from 2017’s 1,724,133 to 2018’s 1,756,026 visitors by accommodation. In fact, day tourist data also increased to 2,150,847 in 2018   from 1,724,133 in 2017 with 7% foreign tourist and 93% domestic tourist, perhaps because of the strong republic highway with the roll on roll off which allows more families move around through inter island vessels .             The merry month of March is already here, a sign of summertime in the air, the sun has been smiling since day 1 and one can feel th...

FARMTASTIC: NO ONE SHOULD GO HUNGRY

Image
waiting for my ride I have been travelling around the province the past few days on a fine week.  The sun was out all the time and weather was fine and cool. Negros Occidental has a total land area of 792,607 hectares or about 375 kilometres long from Hinoba-an in the south to San Carlos to the north.             by the pool at Guerrero Farm Guerrero Farm Resto With more 13 cities and 19 municipalities, no doubt that this would fill up the calendar every month when we speak of festivals, be it about plants, trees, animals , lights or the arts . Recently, we took the day off for a visit to nearby farms for a familiarization tour, when visiting farms one should have a hand fan and a hat and possibly bring a shawl to cover your face from the heat of the sun and a bottle of water. Never ever forget to bring a camera with extra battery when on tour.          ...

Balsa : A River Cruise in Negros

Image
Two and a half hours drive to the south towards the town of Ilog from Bacolod, we reached Malabong bridge at Barangay Andulauan,   just a short   turn to the right from the main road after the bridge. There are orange , blue and green flaglets   on bamboo poles with a colourful signage and a mascot with uniformed men and women at the reception line. Enough parking space, a reception area and information counter for proper registration .  As we walk along the path , there are  information boards about the history of Ilog, the Balsa floating route, and some birds to identify along the way considering the site being a bird sanctuary .  The first quarter of the year welcomes the migratory birds in Andulauan which makes the cruise along the river in a native  floating restaurant more special. This is the latest attraction in southern Negros, Balsa River Cruise. The idea of a river cruise has been suggested to many...

JOMABO : A Paradise in the North

Image
When the rain comes in June, July, August until October, we take out our jackets and raincoats with us, the bigger the umbrella you carry, the better so it won’t be blown away by    the winds brought about by the summer monsoon. Indeed it was drizzling early in the morning when we were on a road trip to the north. Surprisingly, the weather changed and the sun came up, we were on a fifteen minute speed boat ride to the white island. This was the calm after the storm and you can see clearly through the water underneath. We were so excited for a three-day stay in the island formerly known as Isla Puti because of its white sandy beach.   The island is about 2.5 hectares when the tide is at its peak, and is about 5 hectares at its lowest tide. As we approached Jomabo Island Paradise Resort, one would want to jump and dive before docking. There are about six fan family cottages with a capacity of 10 persons for each, where there are two bedrooms, a kitchenett...

Best Tour Guide Award 2018   Tourism Week 2018 Celebration   It’s been a year since the Province of Negros Occidental   was awarded Hall of Fame in the National ATOP Pearl Awards besting all other provinces in the country for the Celebration of Tourism Month in the Philippines. Arriving   late in the afternoon from the recently concluded Philippine Travel Mart and the National Tourism Summit for Tourism Officers and Tour Operators. It was a fast   three hour ride to Sipalay the next day on a cold morning, the waves were high, many surfers caught my attention at the public beach in the city. We were billeted at the Tourism Center where aircon rooms are available just right in front of the beach. We had a walk about with about seven   tricycle drivers   at the old city hall we walked to the plaza, then the statue of our national hero Jose Rizal, followed by an interesting story of the police station where a 1943 bell hangs ...
