JOMABO : A Paradise in the North

Image
When the rain comes in June, July, August until October, we take out our jackets and raincoats with us, the bigger the umbrella you carry, the better so it won’t be blown away by    the winds brought about by the summer monsoon. Indeed it was drizzling early in the morning when we were on a road trip to the north. Surprisingly, the weather changed and the sun came up, we were on a fifteen minute speed boat ride to the white island. This was the calm after the storm and you can see clearly through the water underneath. We were so excited for a three-day stay in the island formerly known as Isla Puti because of its white sandy beach.   The island is about 2.5 hectares when the tide is at its peak, and is about 5 hectares at its lowest tide. As we approached Jomabo Island Paradise Resort, one would want to jump and dive before docking. There are about six fan family cottages with a capacity of 10 persons for each, where there are two bedrooms, a kitchenett...

Best Tour Guide Award 2018   Tourism Week 2018 Celebration   It’s been a year since the Province of Negros Occidental   was awarded Hall of Fame in the National ATOP Pearl Awards besting all other provinces in the country for the Celebration of Tourism Month in the Philippines. Arriving   late in the afternoon from the recently concluded Philippine Travel Mart and the National Tourism Summit for Tourism Officers and Tour Operators. We were billeted at the Tourism Center where aircon rooms are available just right in front of the beach. We had a walk about with about seven   tricycle drivers   at the old city hall we walked to the plaza, then the statue of our national hero Jose Rizal, followed by an interesting story of the police station where a 1943 bell hangs ...

She is a fast typist and plays the piano very well. When i was at junior high school, mommy decided to go to the United States to help raise us who were growing up fast. My dad just came back from a two year contract in Saudi Arabia .  Yes both parents were Overseas Filipino Workers. It was only after twelve years that she came back, she missed our prom, she missed our weddings, she also missed taking care of us when we gave birth to her grandchildren .This time they were already separated with my dad.  Finally she came home and year after year she would find time visiting us.  Mom came home again last summer, she walks a little bit slower this time, she  is on medication for diabetes at 72. Negros Day

5 th of November             Every 5 th of November better known as Negros Day in the Province of Negros Occidental is a celebration of freedom from the colonization of   Spaniards , a historical event depicted at the Cannon Festival of   Bago City where you see   rolled sawali mats painted in black on top of   carriages with men in revolutionary attire carrying coconut stalks with knives at one end to look like bayonets while marching towards Bacolod in 1898. Today, the loud sounds of the cannons along the main streets of Bago no longer tell us about fear from enemies but a sweet memory of freedom   many years back. This is how significant this celebration has become. One can visit Silay City   for the annual KAON TA event, a food festival showcasing the delicacies of the town and home grown recipes where you get to taste in Silay and during the two day festival. Was...
